Yorkie Color
Yorkie puppies are born black and tan and then the color of the Yorkshire
Terrier will change as the dog grows older. The Yorkie will normally lighten as the dog matures. It is 2 bb genes & 2 BB genes which combine to make gorgeous coloring. A quick overview of colors:
Tan : All tan will be darker at the roots and then a slow lightening to the tips
Blue: A diluted black and is not mixed with another color. This is usually a dark steel blue.
Black: Puppies will usually have black intermingled with tan
Gold: A term used to describe tan tones in the darker shades

Points of Interest
- The Yorkie was originally a working class family's dog. Then, during the Victorian Era this breed became popular among royalty. This change made the Yorkie a very sought after dog breed and those who owned one were admired.
- 2 purebred Yorkshire Terriers, both with a genetic recessive genes, mated to produce a spotted Yorkie. This, in 1984, created a new breed known as the Biewer.
- Although it is said that the Yorkie used to originally be used as "rat catchers" long ago...there is evidence that this breed were also used for hunting, especially for small animals that would hide in tiny dens. Because the animals in these dens who are cornered often fought back brutally, this gave the Yorkshire Terrier the characteristic of having great courage and valor.
Allergies
Did you know that 22% of all dogs suffer from some type of allergy? A dog may be born with this or it may develop at any age. An allergic reaction to fleas is the most common type; however there are many elements that trigger this such as food, shampoo and more. In addition, there are several different types.
The trigger can be contact, inhaled or ingested. The symptoms often mimic other health issues and symptoms vary greatly.

Yorkie Grooming
This is a long-haired breed and does not have
an undercoat. This means that the Yorkie rarely sheds, a small amount
of hair usually only falls out when brushed. However, even with little
to no shedding, there are many other elements of grooming to be aware
of.
Bathing at the right times is vital to good coat health, tails must be trimmed, dewclaws may be removed (this is usually done at a very early age), special attention should be given to the ears and much more. Learn all about grooming details.

Dental Care
Taking care of your
Yorkie’s teeth is very important. Dogs do not develop cavities as
often as humans do, however it is the plague and tarter buildup that can
attack the teeth and lead to severe infections. Without treatment,
teeth begin to crumble, bone is destroyed and ultimately the teeth will
fall out or need to be extracted.
The Yorkshire Terrier is a breed that is very susceptible to dental issues. You can train your dog from the day that you bring him or her home. This is done in steps, to allow the dog to become used to the feeling of cleanings, the taste and sitting still while you do this.
You should begin with you finger, move up to a dog finger brush and then finally a high quality dog toothbrush.
Paying attention to this very important grooming aspect will be a big help towards keeping your Yorkie healthy with proper care of the teeth.

Tail Docking Information
The element of docking the Yorkshire Terrier’s tail is quite controversial. In the United States, a tail docked to a medium length is very common and is part of the AKC breed standard. Some countries have banned this practice, such as Australia, Finland, Greece, Sweden and Norway, among others. Efforts to ban tail docking became strong in the 1990’s. Teacup Yorkies
This breed follows close to the Chihuahua in regard to size. The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the smallest breeds in the world. Is there an official variety who are smaller than the standard 4 to 7 pounds (1.81 to 3.17 kg) ? Let's discuss the facts regarding Toy, Miniature and Teacup Yorkies.
Appearance
