What to Know About Yorkie Puppies For Sale
Pet Store Facts

Where should you go to find a Yorkie puppy?  Should you get your Yorkie puppy from a pet store?  The store looks clean & professional...the sales people are very nice and seem knowledgeable...and the puppies look very cute.   What could be wrong about this?

Did you ever wonder where the dogs come from?  When a furniture store needs to stock up on sofas, a furniture warehouse provides what they need.  The same method is true for pet stores.  When a pet store needs pups they go to large puppy manufacturers.  These puppy factories are called Puppy Mills. Conditions are brutal and the dogs are very unhealthy.  In a typical Mill, you will find:

•    The dogs are forced to breed. The health of the female dogs is not important, only the amount of litters she is forced to have. Once she cannot handle having any more, most often she is disposed of, like trash.
•    Dogs are fed cheap, generic dog food (those are the lucky ones)
•    Socialization skills are non-existent.  Pups are never hugged, kissed or cuddled. The first 2 months are the most important in a dog’s life, as their personality is shaped by their breeder. In this case, the dog will have no socialization skills.
•    The Yorkie puppies never know any other feeling on their paws other than the cold steel cage.  The wire cages can often damage tiny, soft pup paws.
•    Dogs are forced into crates which are placed one on top of the other, urine and feces drip down from one crate to the one below it.
•    Exercise, by law in many places = having 2 pups in 1 crate ! (Apparently their "exercise" is crawling on top of each other)
•    Yorkie puppies for sale at pet stores almost always have more health issues than well bred dogs.

Let's take a look at exactly where pet stores obtain their Yorkie puppies for sale:

Dogs are considered to be "trash" when retired from breeding.  More than 1 dog in a cage equals "exercise" in the eyes of the law.
Backyard Breeder Facts

There are many types of dog breeders.  "Backyard breeder" is a general terms coined to describle a dog breeder who is very unethical, leaving dogs to live in terrible conditions.  This type of person is very similar to a Puppy Mill.  They only real difference is that they operate from their homes.  When you are looking for a breeder...beware !  Backyard breeders to not allow visitors to see the real conditions of where the dogs are kept.   Keep an eye out for all areas of the home and yard.  Most breeders will be more than happy to have you come to their home and see everything.  However, there are some ethical breeders, who for safety concerns, do not allow strangers to walk through thier homes.

You must be careful whom you purchase from.  Dogs stuck into lined up cages and dead dogs left to lie in food corrals is what can be found behind the scenes with  "backyard breeders" .  Read this before you buy a Yorkie Puppy
